The two main characters, the heroes as it were, of the age known as HarvestTime, are a mouse named Larson and a vole named Kilbey.
The age is named after Kilbey, who is called Harvestleaf after the bright red color of his fur.
Kilbey
Kilbey, whose full name is Kilbey Harvestleaf, is a vole from the countryside of the Mouseward of Willow Pointe. He has bright red fur. He was born in autumn and his mother was convinced that his fur color matching his birth season meant he was destined for great things. Others are not convinced, as he grew up he was smaller and quieter than other voles, and he is either ignored or bullied.
Most people think Kilbey is shy and prefers to be alone since he is always off doing his own thing. Partly it is a natural reaction to how he is treated by others - if they are going to ignore him he might as well not even try to involve himself, and if he is going to be bullied he might as well try to stay out of sight. But, he also just knows what he wants and does it, and doesn't wait for others to join him. Plus, he prefers to be outside in nature rather than stuck in town with so many people around. He likes peace and quiet and instead of looking or waiting for it, he tries to make it himself. He loves animals and his quiet, gentle nature makes even wild animals trust him.
He might be small, but don't underestimate him, Kilbey is a lot tougher than he looks. His determination and resolve far outweigh any physical limitations and his imagination helps him come up with ways to get things done without brute strength. He displays his cunning with sarcastic remarks when he does finally open his mouth.
Besides his singular fur color, one other thing makes Kilbey unique: he wears specyacle of the pince nez variety, though not even Larson know why, few folk especially voles need or wear them. He usually carries a simple walking stick and wears a green felt shoulder bag.
Larson
Larson Glimmers is a mouse from the town of Pinehollows in the Mouseward of Willow Pointe. He has blonde fur with a unique white blaze up his nose.
Larson wears a pale yellow cowl which he can pull up over his face or over his head as a hood for protection from extreme elements as well as a blue felt belt. He carries and is skilled with a spear.
