- Animal is what the Rodentia call the natural, unintelligent beings such as the mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, fishes and insects of the worlds.
- Monster is the name for beings that show higher intelligence than beasts but are not as civilized as those considered folk. They often are savage and dangerous, and usually compete with the folk for resources.
- Creature is the Rodentian term for beasts with extraordinary appearances and/or abilities. They are not seen in everyday life and to most folk they are legends or folktales and their existence is questionable.
MONSTERS
The monsters include those beasts that nearly equal the folk in intelligence and culture, but in each of them something keeps them from being considered folk - usually a savage nature. For some it may just be their size, since especially the mus consider size, in reverse proportion, relative to intelligence - that is the bigger you are the less intelligent you are.
Badger
Bats
Many Rodentia wouldn't argue if bats were included among the folk rather than as beasts, however their more primitive societies and frightening appearance usually keep them on the list of monsters. Bats are gathered together in tribes nearly equal to the Rodentia . One difference is that bat tribes are families all sharing the same color which include brown, hoary, red, and silver.
Opossum
Raccoon
Skunk
Weasel-kin
Weasels and their cousins the fishers, martens and otters.
The animals of Rodentia include the bird, fish, mammals, and reptiles as well as insects.
Birds
Birds are probably the most widespread and populous animal of Rodentia even over folk and mammals combined.
Crows and Ravens
If they weren't birds, these two black-feathered cousins may be considered folk - they both have the ability to talk and sometimes serve as intermediaries between folk and other birds.
Fowl
The fowl are birds that are larger in size than most and also stick to either land or water more than the air.
Landfowl include pheasant, quail, and turkey
Waterfowl include ducks, geese, and swans.
Raptors
Though some other birds hunt folk, none are as dangerous as these predators of the sky including:
Eagle, falcon, hawk, osprey, owls, vulture
Shorebirds
Kingfisher, Loon, Sandpiper
Seabirds
Cormorant, crane, egret, heron, gulls, pelican, terns
Skybirds
Hummingbird, swift
Songbirds
Songbirds encompass most birds of Rodentia. Though most are harmless, some even friendly, to the folk, one of them - the shrike - is considered as dangerous as the raptors.
Bluejay, cardinal, dove, goldfinch, nuthatch, pigeon, robin, shrike, sparrow, starling, swallow, titmouse, wren
Woodpecker
Fish
Fish are categorized mostly by where they live with a few species living in more than one waterway.
Lake Fish
Bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie
River Fish
Pike, Salmon, sturgeon, trout
Sea Fish
Mammals
It is not clear if the folk consider themselves a type of mammal, one far advanced, or their own type of being altogether. They share many qualities of the mammals like having fur, but their intelligence seems to set them apart. Many folk consider themselves mammals, just a higher version of them.
Mammals have the most beasts that may appear similar to the folk yet lack the intellect to be considered one such as rabbits and even bears who both look much like giant Rodentia.
Most of the mammals that are not folk or monsters are predators, except for the hare and deer.
Predators
There are five giant predators that all serve as some of the biggest dangers to folk including:
Bear, bobcat, fox (gray and red), lynx, and wolf.
Deer
Deer are generally harmless to folk except their large size can be a trampling danger to a mus or kin caught unawares and deer can also be pests destroying crops.
Hares and Rabbits
Hares are an important animal to the folk. Many folk use them as livestock to ride or do labor much as we do horses and oxen. Their wool is used for textiles. There are different breeds of hares and rabbits used for different purposes - riding, drafting, and wool.
Reptiles & Amphibians
